In Colorado Springs two thirds of workers in the science field are women, yet the median income for women in science fields is a mere 42% of men's. No wonder Sam arrived for that briefing in Children of the Gods with a bit of a chip on her shoulder. Someone in the elevator on her trip down had let slip how much Dr. Lee was making.

It seems likely, given how late in the series it was that General Hammond threatened to fire Felger because he had such a woeful track record, at least it was not his salary that was setting her off. If Jack knew, he'd be very, very grateful. He likes his to be not only on the outside, but more importantly, still there!

Is 2/3 a real statistic for Colorado Springs? If so, that's really interesting to have that high a percentage. I'd have a chip on my shoulder too if I were Sam!

Yeah. It is. I don't tend to believe everything I come across on the web, but this one seemed on the up and up.

Here's the link

Fortunately, military & gov't contract jobs follow the GS pay chart, which designates how much someone makes at a certain level of career advancement, so that there's no need for salary negotiation or refraining from discussing how much co-workers make.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that women & people of color don't get promoted as often as straight white males do in gov't jobs :[

I did, in fact know that, and also, I understand that Sam being military, and Dr. Lee appearing to be a civilian contracted to the project, like Daniel, would be working on a separate pay scale in any case. Still, I couldn't resist.

Maybe I'm eeeeeevil. Maybe.

Now I'm wondering if Teal'c & Vala were in the same pay grade as Daniel... or Jonas...

And if Jonas had to deal with the IRS after he left Earth...

I'm pretty sure someone on SG-1 got a horrible headache trying to help Teal'c with his taxes that first year, with things going downhill fast from the moment they confront the problem of the initial identifying info.

"First Name: ?"

[Eyebrow of Are You Dense]

"Middle Initial: We'll leave that one blank."

"If it is initial, then it is first. It cannot be in the middle."

"No it means... Nevermind. Last Name: Do Jaffa have last names?"

"We do not."

"Well what would you like for one?"

"I would not."

"No, Teal'c. I meant given that you have to have one—"

"I do not. Jaffa do not have last names."

"I know that! But the IRS is not going to understand, and they are going to want a last name."

"I do not have one. I am Jaffa."

"Gimme the phone. Daniel? Weren't you jawing on the other day about how folks from some countries only have one name?... If they work here, how do they fill out their tax form?... Well use those excellent PhD research skills you are so proud of, and find out!"

LOL Teal'c's Earth alias is T. Murray ;)
Apr. 12th, 2015 05:23 am (UTC)
Now, sure, but Jack came up with the name Murray on the fly during Point of No Return in Season 4, when he has to introduce him to Marty.

The IRS may know him under a different name.

Me neither until now! That's why we all need to keep the chatter going. You never know what will jog the brain!

Re: Happy Birthday!
Thank you so much! Earth is celebrating here with the first week of actually spring-like weather, and soon the last patches of old dirty snow will have melted, except in the most shaded hollows up in the woods. I have high hopes that the first snowdrops will show their heads by my birthday (Friday), and then will come the crocuses and my favorites, the daffodils.

Re: Happy Birthday!
I'm in NW Missouri and luckily we've had Spring for 2 or 3 weeks, now. I love all the green grass (had to mow Sat. for the first time this year) and the magnolia blossoms and forsythia, they are starting to fade and the flowering crabapple trees are in full glorious blossom. We've had daffodils for about 3 or more weeks. I do love Spring!
