The folks who are organizing and running my daughter's trip to France that was to have flown out of Montreal on Friday have wisely decided to can it for now, and reschedule for next November. This seems wise in view of the fact that all of us could easily envision the scenario where a window of opportunity to get there would open up, they would get to France, and then when it was time to leave, that the winds could have shifted back, stranding them, and running up unavoidable costs, when some of the families involved are of very modest means. Since they will be going eventually, just not now, the kids are taking it pretty philosophically. The parents are relieved.

My kids have signed up for 5 overseas school trips now, and this is the only one so far that I have shelled out for trip insurance. To my vast surprise, the policy does cover this (under "natural disasters"), so there are forms to fill out, but no fiscal drain. Whew!

Thank you for all the birthday kindnesses, one and all! I have a wonderful, thoughtful f-list! And on the home front out-of-town relatives and kids called, the 14 year old promised a half-birthday present from France, my husband pampered me with two gourmet meals and a diabetic-safe but yummy dessert, and showered me with books, a DVD, and a CD, and my 7 year old gave me a handmade card and an endearingly misshapen multi-colored plasticine coil pot. In the words of my brother-in-law upon discovering that at our house the Easter bunny provides for both the tall and the small: "I made out like a ban-dit! I made out like a ban-dit!"

Thank you! I kind of missed it over here on LJ too, since I didn't actually make it to the computer until my birthday was technically over, what with all the pampering and fussing going on right here at home!
